Amos Towers is owned by the “Amos Lodge of B’nai B’rith Housing Foundation, Inc” and has been in operation since December 1985. HBS Management Company has been charged with the responsibility of managing the building since January 2018. Amos Towers is a Section 202/8 federally subsidized housing program. Once you qualify for housing, your rent will be based on income, assets, and medical expenses. Our smoke-free building and property consist of 96 apartments designed for seniors. In addition, 10% of the apartments are available for persons under age 62 who need the accessible features of the apartment. We offer one-bedroom and efficiency size apartments with a separate sleeping area. Occupancy is limited to a maximum of two individuals in a one-bedroom apartment and one person in an efficiency apartment.

How old is Amos Towers?Amos Towers opened in 1985 for leasing. Over the past several years numerous updates and renovations have been added to ensure a safe and beautiful facility, that you will be proud to call home.

How many apartments are there?There are 96 apartments located on floors 1 – 8. 63-One-bedroom apartments and 25 efficiency style apartments converted to add a separate bedroom, and 8 apartments exclusively for applicant/residents who require the features of a handicapped unit.

Do I have to pay for utilities?Included in the rent for all apartments is heat, water, sewage, & trash. Residents are responsible for their electricity, telephone, cable, parking and storage bins if applicable. There is a Utility Allowance for your electric expense, that is taken off your rent the time of move-in. The utility allowance for one bedroom and handicapped apartments is currently $37.00 for a 1 bedroom and $39.00 for an efficiency apartment. This may change annually.

Are there any other fees associated with moving to Amos Towers?No application fee or other move in fees No lump sum or community buy in fee No deposit is required to hold the apartment One month’s security deposit is required upon move in Yes, there is a parking fee of $15.00 for covered parking and $10.00 for our parking lot. Yes, we have a limited number of bin storage units available based upon seniority. They range in price from $2.00 - $4.00.

What type of heat does Amos Towers have?Gas baseboard heat with an adjustable thermostat available in all apartments.

Are the apartments air conditioned?Air conditioning is located in each apartment and fully controlled by te resident.

Is it near downtown?Amos Towers is located within close proximity to many amenities. We are approximately two blocks to the Scranton Regional Hospital, one block to the Jewish Community Center, and approximately six blocks to the center of Scranton. We are located three blocks from the Scranton Cultural Center, two blocks from the public library and walking distance to Physicians Health Alliance and Physicians associated with Scranton Regional Hospital. If I don’t drive, is there a van to take me places?"Colts Bus Service has a van which takes residents to scheduled health related appointments. Amos Towers schedules a van twice each week for grocery shopping as well as trips to local shopping malls and restaurants. The van service is no cost to residents over 65. Daily public bus transportation is located two blocks away. See our Human Service Co-Ordinator to see if you qualify for free public bus transportation.

Is there a parking lot?Yes, there are 43 parking spaces. 7 spaces are covered parking spaces.

Can I have a dog or cat?One pet per apartment less than 30 lbs. is permitted and a pet deposit is required. Please ask about specifics.

Is smoking permitted?Smoking is not permitted in any area of Amos Towers, including, apartments, and common areas. Smoking is not permitted on any area of the property owed by Amos Towers. You must go off the property to smoke. That rule applies to all residents, staff, and any visitors or guests.

Is there a Community Room for residents to use?A large multi-use Community Room is on the 8th floor that is always open for our residents for daily activites, movies, Bingo and residents may reserve the community room through the office for private. Daily games are played, including Pokeno, Bingo, Mah Jongg and Rummy Kub. This room is available for use by our residents for Holiday get-togethers, movie nights, social hours etc.

What does the Community Room include?Dining area Kitchen, including stove and dishwasher Wall mounted 70” screen TV, with DVD player and WII System Bingo and other group activities Monthly Birthday parties Holiday get togethers Community room reservations are available for family or private functions.

Is there a Computer Room?There is a computer sitting room. There are 2 computers and a printer available 24 hours a day. There is also a sitting area with a 55” television with cable and DVD player. This room is available to all residents. A key to the computer room will be given to you upon request.

Is there a Game Room?There is a game room that is beautifully decorated, with many games, puzzles and a game table to use for your convenience. There is also a library with a large assortment of books, and magazines. The room has a lovely sitting area that is very quiet. Take a moment to look through the library and relax in the peaceful setting.

Is there Outside Sitting Areas?There is a spacious very relaxing gazebo with benches, and there are several areas for our residents to sit in peaceful settings and enjoy the beautiful colorful landscaped areas. There are also several seating locations in front of our building for getting together for a chat with other residents.
